We are currently working on a CO₂ tracker that automatically and transparently records users personal CO₂ footprint. The aim of the project is to make users everyday live easier to understand in terms of their environmental impact and to identify specific opportunities for improvement.

The tracker categorizes different areas of life:

Consumer behavior:

Which products are purchased and what is their carbon footprint?

Transport:

Analysis of the means of transport used.

Internet use:

impact of server activities.’

Smart home:

electricity and water consumption in the household.

A central component of the project is the development of personalized stories based on users individual activities. These stories provide practical tips, e.g. alternatives for short car journeys, and motivate users through weekly goals and gamified elements such as challenges with friends.

In addition, users should have the opportunity to offset their CO₂ emissions through donations to environmental NGOs or to receive discounts from environmentally friendly partners if they make sustainable improvements.

A visualized character serves as a progress indicator and changes its facial expressions and gestures depending on how environmentally friendly the user's lifestyle is.

The project is currently in the development phase, with our focus on user-friendly, automated data collection and an appealing interaction design.
